You know what? I don’t do enough serif-based typefaces, so let’s chuck in Garamond.

Ah yes the class of the French, the beauty, the je nes sais quoi! Garamond has it all. Its organic style has made it one hella popular font to date, along with its counterpart - Times New Roman. The type was created in the 16th century, during the Renaissance period by Claude Garamond (ooh hence the name) and is a stunning old-style serif. Garamond was bought into the digital era by Adobe in 1989, and delighted was the industry to receive it in a digital format. In terms of its eco rating this font is up there with previous Tasty Type friend, Century Gothic. It uses less ink than other font alternatives, even Times New Roman. Having trouble reading certain fonts due to their nasty design? You’ll have no trouble with Garamond as it is one of the most legible serif fonts when printed onto paper, it is readable due to its natural form thus flows with the readers eyes.

I’ve never heard of them either, but they are a similar match to this weeks Tasty Type!

Capital “T” left serif is slanted whilst the right is straight

Lower case “e” and “a” counters are small unlike the rest of its alphabet

The capital “P” and number “9” stems do not connect with their counter

Oblique stress

The uppercase “W” resembles two “V”s connected together

The lowercase “g” ear is placed directly on the side.

The Abercrombie and Fitch logo uses a bolded version of the font, fitting with the preppy aspect of its brand. Many of the Dr Seuss books use Garamond. Due to the bright and playful illustrations featured in the books, a light and delicate typeface was needed to compliment with the imagery. Plantage aan het Water; a book about Amsterdam’s plant life. Featuring swishy and fluid terminals, could they be a nod to the waterways of the city?

Looking for something totally contrasting and with a bit of flair? Well look no further than Cabazon; this blackletter font is the ultimate Garamond companion.

It’s just works!
