Tasty Type - Avenir

Yes! Finally! I am back with another typical Tuesday tasty type! I know I know, it has been far too long, but settle down, as this week we can get back on track with a pretty popular font named Avenir.

According to typewolf.com, Avenir is one of the most popular fonts of 2014. The website asked 41 big name designers about their favourite typefaces and Avenir was ranked one of the highest. Its ageless appeal comes from its geometric sans-serif styling, which doesn’t give it too much edge but allows it to see comfortably with the best. Swiss designer, Adrian Frutiger birthed this font in 1988 and considers it to be his best work, quoting “my masterpiece”. Nowadays the typeface can be found in six weights, which has expanded on the family of three back in 1988. You can come across roman and oblique versions.

Printed Pages, Spring 2014. I love the website of ‘It’s Nice That’ and its quarterly magazine was revamped using the font of Avenir. Featuring interviews and impeccable design, this publication offers visual pleasure on all levels.

Brooklyn/Montreal Art Event. This poster was for an art event in 2013. Using Avenir as its lead act, it features a lovely red to blue gradient.

Pair the old style serif of Garamond with the younger, contemporary face of Avenir. A match made in typographic heaven.

I really, really, really like this font. It just ticks all the right boxes!
