DIY - Painted Plant Cans

I was watching a few of essiebuttons videos the other day and I came across the "5 Easy Spring DIYs #SpringTrilogy" video. I really wanted to recreate the painted can DIY for myself so here it is!

You will need:

Aluminium cans

Make sure your cans are washed out thoroughly and all labelling removed.

Paints

For best paints use home emulsion paints, tester pots are great because they are cheap and a decent amount. Mine are from Wilko for £1.10

&

I have some white acrylic paint from The Works to mix with the red as I want it a bit less 'red'

Brush and Tape

Make sure you have a decent brush that won't shed its bristles into the paint

&

Masking tape!

(Extras:)

Brush cleaner and scrubber

I used the Eco-spirit to clean my brushes afterwards but also to clean paint from areas on the can that paint shouldn't be

The scrubbing brush along with soap really make the cans shiny before painting

The Making:

1.

Apply tape to the cans where you would like your paint to go up to. 

Make sure you stick it down firmly with no air gaps underneath 

because else paint will leak underneath.

2. 

Paint the cans with whatever emulsion you have chosen. I applied 

4 coats to the cans, hair drying between each layer (I'm impatient!) 

so the paint wasn't translucent. 

Turn upside down to dry

3. 

When completely dry, peel of the masking tape delicately to reveal

your hard work!

Strawberry Planter

I bought a crochet strawberry bag a few back in Northern Thailand for the grand total of 40p and decided I would utilise it as a planter (Its a wee bit small for me to fit my phone you see).

The bag and succulent plant

I was in town this morning and came across this little Succulent plant; I was drawn to its haywire growth and decided that it would look perfect in my little crochet bag.

I had to fold over the bag straps as it would be lopsided when the plant was hung, so I have used a sneaky safety pin to attach the straps to the other side. 

I am so happy with my new little planter, it is in a temporary residence at the moment, hanging on my windows handle. There is a lack of hanging places in my room which saddens me. I am always on the look-out for cute plant receptacles so there may be more of these posts!
