As
stated above, this weeks Tasty Type is often used on wanted posters and all
things wild west. This broad serif typeface appealed to the printers due to its
dominant presence, highlighting areas of information that the public could
easily see from afar. Its classification is slab-serif and it was born into the
world in 1845 by Englishman Robert Besley for the Fann Street Foundry.
Clarendon (and the rest of its family) is one immaculately constructed font,
even though it is bold and compelling it does not overwhelm the page, its
outline balances with those around it. Many versions of the font have been
created; French Clarendon produced in 1865 is seen as an elongated variation
and has its history set in Wanted: Dead Or Alive posters. As of 1935 Monotype
has ownership over this acclaimed font and here’s a fun fact, Clarendon is
considered to be one of the first registered typefaces.

This lovely red and blue
number is a poster for Sam’s Town Memorial Day event designed by Jenni Leder. The stylish Kansas statehood stamp uses Clarendon in really delicate way. Eat Real Festivals promo poster is super fun and features the font. Other uses of
the font are Sony’s logo and People magazines headline.
Trade Gothic's sans-serif appearance works
well with Clarendon’s timeless slab-serifs
(Nearrrlllly, so very neaaarllly was it to
a 9. But hey 8 is pretty hot, you gotta blow on it before you put it in your
mouth. No pun intended ....Okay maybe a little pun)
