CREATIVE BOOKS I REACHED FOR @ UNI

It’s that time of the year again where uni is about to begin. Whether you are starting freshers, or are ready to tackle your final year, it’s an exciting time and one in which we should get stocked up on our supplies! This post covers some incredible books. They have helped me out in my uni days studying a creative course and hopefully they can help you out too!

Sunday Summary No. 12

August 10th - 16th

This week has been full of many up’s and down’s, I don’t really know why but I haven’t been feeling myself these past few days. I’m sad about everything and I constantly compare myself to others. I easily let other people define my self-worth. It has to stop. Onwards and upwards!

Five Funky Things

I seem to love doing things in fives, so here we go!

Macaron Eyeshadow

This sweet little eyeshadow is from Beauty Buffet. I love Beauty Buffet due to their quirky packaging, hence why this had to be mine. This is a lovely warm cream colour, and has so much shine to it. I have been applying this to the corners of my eyes and the centre of my lids to give them a wonderful pop! 

Lucky Cat

Yes, I know what you are thinking, why do I even have one of these. Well here's the thing, this guy is freekin adorable! I was in MBK and was drawn to this cute version of Maneki-Neko, these "Lucky Cats" are believed to bring good luck to the owner and are usually placed near the entrance of shops to bring in customers. As I do not own a shop, he has pride of place in my room, spreading luck around me.

"Flyer Design" Book

Asia Books seems to have masses of cool design books lately, so I grabbed this amazing "Flyer Design" one. Even though the book is in Japanese, this did not put me off, the images are amazing and it's bursting with brilliant executions of design. It mixes cute and creative, I love it. 

Maybelline Mini Powder

Now 7/11 has some interesting items, and in the abyss of strange 'to-go' products was this really handy "Maybelline Clear Smooth All In One" powder. It's so mini and useful. It comes with a little built-in mirror and powder pad for application. This stuff takes the shine straight off and even has SPF 25!

Tin Bowl

Another completely random purchase was this tin bowl. I got this at an Antiques Market in Bang Na and was drawn to the paint flick effect, best thing is that it was only 60p. You can never have enough receptacles!

Cute Purchases (Past & Present)

Over the past few weeks I have been stationary shopping, sorting out my room and just buying things that made me happy. Some of the items listed below have either been bought in the past few weeks, or things that I have had for a few years.

  Typo: Acrylic Chalk Board Paint

I bought this little "pot-o-paint" a while ago and at the moment it just sits on my shelf as a bookend. Although I haven't gotten around to using it yet, the packaging is super cute, and i'm just waiting for the right thing to paint! Link: cottonon.com

3 snazzy pens

These are just three nice pens I came across whilst browsing the pen section of my local art supplies shop. The Sharpie Silver permanent marker is great for writing on black surfaces, and the other two ballpoint pens are just cheap but quirky additions to my pencil case. One is a bunny pen, the other has small strawberries on it!

Abel: Cutting Base

I needed a small cutting mat for my uni room, so naturally I chose a teeny-tiny one! Just 23 x 19 cm, but as I don't use my cutting tools too often, this will do the job perfectly. 

Typo: Oh Crap stamp

I bought this stamp at roughly the same time I bought my chalk board paint. Its a simple self-inking stamp and has livened up my failed tests. Unfortunately Typo doesn't sell it anymore, but here is a page of stamps they do sell - x

Polka-dot notebook

A small A5 lined notebook I will use in uni, and the pattern is so adorable it made me want to buy it instantly.

I can't even remember when I purchased this little set, i'd say over 2 years ago, but I've recently got back into letter writing, and this set makes everything more fun! It includes some sticker sheets, envelopes and patterned writing paper. Paperchase doesn't sell this set anymore but they do sell other versions - x

Illustration School: Lets Draw Plants And Small Creatures

Last week I was feeling really low and just feeling generally down about myself. I went to the bookstore with my Mum and came across this little illustration guide by Sachiko Umoto. It put a smile on my face instantly and when something can pick me up from feeling really low, it deserves to be bought. I fell in love with Umoto's quirky little drawings and her use of words and annotations. This book is aimed a beginner illustrators, and even though I can illustrate to a certain extent, this book gave me so much inspiration! Link: amazon.co.uk
